Hi. I'm an ex Civil Enforcement Officer who worked at Lancashire County Council. I did the role for nearly 8 years but due to ill health I had to give it up. I agree with enforcement and believe it should be run as a professional service.
I originally worked for a private company called NSL, but Lancashire County Council decided to not renew the contract and took their civil enforcement in-house to better manage and organise the service. We all transferred to Lancashire County Council.
I enjoyed the role, especially the walking around and the good interactions with members of the public. People think it's just about issuing tickets but that couldn't be further from the truth, in my experience anyway. Most of the day was spent giving advice and directions to motorists and visitors to the area, liaising with local communities and businesses, advising people of parking rules and regulations, reporting of defective signage and markings and being an ear to chew on - you'd be surprised at what people talk to you about, from their home life to personal issues. Obviously if you were an approachable person people would naturally come to you and talk.
Thanks for reading and for visiting the website
